The University of Kansas City, a private, non-sectarian school, opened on October 2, 1933. On July 25, 1963 UKC became the Kansas City campus of the University of Missouri. Of the buildings on the tour, fourteen were completed or acquired during the UKC years, and nine have been built since 1963.  The campus at 51st and Rockhill Road is named after William Volker, a Kansas City philanthropist who was the greatest benefactor of the University during its formative years.
