Welcome to Life as a Roo at UMKC!
I hope you are excited to begin your college journey! UMKC offers hundreds of ways to get involved and to enjoy your collegiate experience!
I have the privilege with working with, in my opinion, the BEST organizations at UMKC. Fraternities and sororities offer unique opportunities and open many doors to other areas of student life. If are interested in community service or philanthropic work or leadership opportunities or high scholastic achievement or any combination of these, then I encourage you to take a deeper look at fraternity and sorority life!
Here at UMKC, fraternities and sororities have held a high grade point average then the all campus, all men’s and all women’s grade point average for 11 out of the last 12 semesters! We devote countless hours to servicing the community which range from volunteering with Harvesters Food Bank to raising money for Make-a-Wish Foundation. UMKC fraternities and sororities are truly well rounded organizations!
We at proud to host 17 chapters at UMKC; nine sororities and eight fraternities. UMKC currently has seven of the Devine Nine, historically African American chapters. These chapters include four sororities: Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Zeta Phi Beta and Sigma Gamma Rho. Three of these chapters are fraternities including Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi and Phi Beta Sigma. We have 5 Interfraternity Council (IFC) fraternities. These are the chapters you probably traditionally think of when you think of a fraternity. This council includes, Beta Theta Pi, Lambda Chi Alpha, Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Sigma Phi Epsilon. UMKC is also host to 5 other sororities. Delta Rho and Beta Sigma Phi fall under our Greek Council. Delta Rho is a local chapter, meaning they are only found at UMKC. Beta Sigma Phi is an international sorority. Our last three sororities make up the Panhellenic Council. These chapters included Alpha Delta Pi, Delta Zeta and Chi Omega.
With 17 chapters, many of our students have found their home away from home and a place that is right for them. I encourage you to start fresh at UMKC and look at our chapters for the values of sisterhood/brotherhood, community service, high scholastic achievement and leadership for which all of our chapters were founded on. I also encourage you to speak with active members in the community. You will find that our members take great pride in their affiliations and attribute much of their success at UMKC to their membership.
If you would like more information about our fraternities and sororities first look through our website that highlights many of our chapters. Please also feel free to come out and meet out members during welcome week events or contact me directly at murphyka@umkc.edu.
Welcome to UMKC!
