Dear SRC Member,

As you may be aware, UMKC recently received a multi-million dollar donation from the Stanley H. Durwood Foundation to construct a new soccer stadium and recreation field.  The new stadium, which has been approved by the Board of Curators, will provide UMKC one of the best soccer facilities in the Summit League and is projected to be ready for the opening game of UMKC’s new women’s soccer program.  The multipurpose facility will allow more student activities to be scheduled in the evenings as well as provide an arena for Intercollegiate Athletics, UMKC Student Intramurals, and our community partners.  

In preparation for the construction, the outdoor track at Swinney Recreation Center will close as of Monday, November 24, 2008 and will remain closed until Fall 2009.  The SRC indoor track will remain open, and the staff at Swinney are available to assist patrons in planning outdoor running routes, including the Trolley Trail, Brush Creek, Mill Creek Park, and routes through the adjacent neighborhoods.

Old Swinney Gymnasium Wall Repair & Repainting

Estimated Completion - June 8, 2009 (completed on time)

Old Swinney Gymnasium will be closed from Monday, May 18 through Sunday, June 7, for wall repair and repainting. Access to the gymnasium should return on Monday, June 8, for the beginning of summer semester classes.  

Old Swinney Stairwell Repainting

Estimated Completion - July 15, 2009 (completed on time)

The stairwell leading to the Racquetball and Squash Courts (southeast) as well as the stairwell leading to the Aerobics Room (southwest) will be repainted from the end of June through mid-July. All wall surfaces, railings and floors will be repainted at this time. Access to these areas will remain open throughout most of this project. The exception will be when floors are repainted.

The Racquetball and Squash Courts will be closed on Monday, July 13, while the stairwell is repainted and to allow for drying time. Access should return at 6am on Tuesday, July 14.

The Aerobics Room will be closed on Tuesday, July 14, at 8am (following the 7am aerobics class) while the stairwell is repainted and to allow for drying time. Access should return at 6am on Wednesday, July 15.

Old Swinney Court Repair & Resurfacing

Estimated Completion - August 3, 2009 (completed on time)

All wooden surfaces in Old Swinney (Gymnasium, Racquetball/Squash Courts and Aerobics Room) will be repaired and resurfaced beginning Monday, July 27. This project is estimated to take one week for completion.

Multipurpose Court Repair & Resurfacing

Estimated Completion - August 10, 2009 (completed by August 17, 2009)

Basketball Courts 1 - 4 will be repaired and resurfaced beginning Monday, August 3. This project is estimated to take one week for completion. Access to Athletics Locker Rooms, Training Room and Weight Room as well as restrooms will be maintained; however, all wooden surfaces will be closed throughout the duration of the project.

Aquatics Center Pool Cleaning

Estimated Completion - August 10, 2009 (completed on time)

The pool will be closed from Monday, August 3 through Sunday, August 9, for annual cleaning and maintenance. The Steam and Sauna Rooms will also be closed for the duration of the project.

Aerobics Room Wall Repair & Repainting

Estimated Completion - August 17, 2009 (completed on time)

The Aerobics Room will be closed from Monday, August 3 through Sunday, August 16, for wall repair and repainting.

Multipurpose Court Acoustic Material Replacement

Estimated Completion - August 17, 2009 (completed August 21, 2009)

The acoustic material along the western wall of the multipurpose courts will be replaced from Monday, August 10 through Sunday, August 16. Access to Athletics Locker Rooms, Training Room and Weight Room as well as courts and restrooms will be maintained throughout the duration of the project. **UPDATE** Acoustic material will be replaced Wednesday, August 19 through Friday, August 21.
