Coaching Program Students

Three main groups of students make up the Coaching Program:
Trial Admit Students
The majority of Coaching Program students have been admitted to the university on a trial basis. There are numerous reasons a student could be a trial admit, but for a trial admit student to be put in the Coaching program he/she must have an ACT below 17, be lacking one or more core courses, and/or be ranked in the bottom 60% of their graduating class. Trial Admit students are in the program as a condition of their admission, thus, their participation is paramount to their continuation at UMKC.
Henry W. Bloch Scholars
Bloch scholars are students who have transferred to UMKC from one of the Metropolitan Community College (MCC) schools or from Donnelly College in Kansas City, KS. These students received a scholarship at their previous institution, and upon completion of their Associates degree, are given a scholarship to UMKC. Traditionally, Bloch Scholars are average achieving students when they are in high school, but are high achievers at the community college level.
Financial Aid Contract Students
Students who have been previously placed on Financial Aid Probation and have not met the terms are then required to sign a contact with the Financial Aid office in order to receive any financial aid for school. Part of the conditions to their contract necessitate they meet with a member of the Coaching Program Staff twice a semester (once at the beginning and once toward the middle). Additionally, they are required to attend five Academic Success Workshops.
Bernard Osher Re-Entry Scholars
Osher Scholars are students who have stopped out of school for up a few years and have returned to finish their degrees at UMKC. Each new scholar is paired with a Peer Coach, and scholars are required to attend Academic Success Workshops.
In addition to these groups, the Coaching Program is open to any UMKC freshman or first year transfer student. If you would like to participate in the Coaching Program, please click on the link below to submit your information.
