A&S 100 is a three hour course designed for freshmen and transfer students, to be taken in their first semester at UMKC.  The course is designed to give students an introduction to UMKC and the resources the university offers.  Special emphasis is placed on learning to use the library, study strategies and test taking skills, writing and computational skills, oral presentations, and critical thinking.  The Coaching Program sections of A&S 100 are designed specifically for students in the Coaching Program and includes the integration of Peer Coaches in class discussions.

UMKC staff and faculty members have been recruited to serve as Academic Coordinators/A&S 100 Facilitators  for the Coaching Program.  Academic Coordinators facilitate the A&S 100 sections and maintain one-on-one contact with students on a regular basis throughout the semester.  Each Academic Coordinator has been selected to work with Coaching Students based on his/her previous work with college students.  It is the goal of the program and the Academic Coordinators to give you a staff or faculty member's perspective in assisting you with the transition from high school or community college to the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
